The story of our liqueur
An artisanally produced liqueur
Respecting the traditions of the monks.
Lake Garda’s first citrus trees grew eight centuries ago, in the peaceful monastery at Gargnano. By carefully selecting the very best fruits, the monks began to produce effective remedies to heal the locals’ bodies, and highly sought-after liqueurs. In 1976, one of the monks shared their ancient recipe, which had been a closely guarded secret, with our founder, Giovanni “Giannino” Risatti. Giannino and the monk had become firm friends over the years, sharing a passion for the local landscape and citrus fruits. That is where the idea for our liqueur truly came to life – in the deep blue stillness of Lake Garda.
Giannino had already made a name for himself with his flourishing hotel business, garnering a reputation for his imaginative designs with every new hotel situated within beautiful gardens. But he has never lost sight of his work on Frutto del Garda, and has passed on centuries of tradition to us.
Completely natural
Only the very best herbs and fruits from Lake Garda.
From choosing the right ingredients to extracting the flavour
Preserve the ancient recipe given to Giannino Risatti. This was the task given to Michele Schonsberg, an expert winemaker who helped us to bring Frutto del Garda into the 21st century. In Giardino Risatti 50 species of citrus, olives and walnuts are harvested when they reach their aromatic peak. Following this gradual infusion and once the precious flavours have been extracted, the resultant blend is mixed with local botanicals, carefully infused in turn.
Guided by ancient knowledge and the rhythms of nature, Frutto del Garda is born. A natural citrus liqueur whose unique flavour means it is best served chilled. We recommend chilling it naturally using our “Pietra del Garda” stones so you can enjoy the same special flavour from your first sip to the very last.
